Often called the “Blue Lagoon of the North”, the Mývatn Nature Baths deliver the same warm, silica-blue geothermal water as their famous southern cousin — but overlooking Lake Mývatn in the volcanic landscapes of North Iceland, usually with a fraction of the crowds and a noticeably smaller bill. Admission starts around $63, roughly half the price of the Blue Lagoon.
The same magic, quieter
The water here is drawn from a borehole 2,500 metres deep and pumped into a milky-blue lagoon rich in minerals and silica, kept at a comfortable bathing temperature. It’s alkaline and famously gentle on the skin. Because North Iceland sees far fewer visitors than the Reykjavík area, the baths tend to feel calm and unhurried even in high season — one of the main reasons regulars prefer them.
Getting there
The baths sit near the town of Akureyri, North Iceland’s hub, and are an easy add-on if you’re driving the Ring Road or arriving by cruise.
